The construction of the Elgin-O’Hare (IL-390) expressway interchange at I-290 is the largest of the Illinois Tollway’s ambitious $3.4 billion Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Project. The project will improve travel efficiency; provide western access to O’Hare International Airport; enhance air, rail and trucking connections; and reduce congestion.
Key elements of the project include:
- Construction of five new bridges
- Design and construction of four retaining walls
- Over 450,000 CY of earthwork moved
- New lighting systems, ITS, drainage work, landscaping, guardrail and associated roadway work.
