OHLA USA’s Community Asphalt constructed 19 miles of new interstate highway with three interchange components in Florida - Interchanges at Wickam Rd, US 192 interchanges, the Pineda Causeway Extension including ramps and a new bridge carrying Pineda Causeway over I-95. The scope of work included the construction of new lanes, widening existing lanes, bridge demolition, bridge replacements, 5 miles of noise walls, all design phasing of the project, and financing. The addition of one lane in each direction along the mainline major movements increased capacity and relieved traffic congestion and improved safety.
Acceleration and deceleration lanes were added to the ramps at Malabar Road, Palm Bay Road, SR-500 (US-192) Eau Gallie Boulevard, and Wickham Road. The project includes a two phase construction technique in lieu of a standard three phase construction approach for the bridge construction of the Pinead interchange in order to expedite the schedule. A unique beam bracing system that installs quickly and is structurally adequate was employed comprised of 4x4 shoring braces to stabilize the beams during erection.
